More about Angela

I have been a dietitian for 11 years, and a counsellor for 3 years. If I had to choose one thing about my counsellor training that changed my practice as a dietitian, it is hands down trauma-informed care!

So often I would struggle when working with clients who seemed stuck in the change process, not knowing how their story with food impacted how they showed up with me.

Put simply, learning more about how trauma impacted my clients made it easier to work alongside them, especially when they might otherwise be labelled as “resistant to change”.

Essentially, trauma-informed care helps shift the narrative from “what is wrong with this person, and why can’t they change?” to “what happened to this person, and what protective role has this eating behaviour served for them?”

I am passionate about helping other dietitians gain skills in trauma-informed care so we can collectively create safer spaces for our clients and communities.
